The FN-16 — China's answer to Stinger and Igla
The FN-16 is a third-generation Chinese Man-Portable Air Defence System (MANPADS) developed by CASIC (China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation). It is the direct successor to the FN-6 and represents China's most modern export-authorised shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile.
Designed for engaging low-altitude fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and increasingly UAVs, the FN-16 delivers effects comparable to the American FIM-92 Stinger and the Russian 9K338 Igla-S at a substantially lower unit cost, making it attractive to armed forces looking to build up short-range air-defence (SHORAD) inventories without breaking the budget.
