The Type 56 is the Chinese-manufactured version of the AK-47, produced by Norinco (China North Industries Corporation) since 1956. Type 56-2 — the side-folding stock variant
The Type 56-2 is the side-folding-stock variant introduced in the 1980s. Instead of a fixed wooden stock, it features a side-folding tubular metal stock that folds to the right side of the receiver, reducing overall length by approximately 25 cm for airborne, vehicle-mounted, and special-forces use.
